Kat, doodling on our mailing list...

So Unique LA has now past, and we had such a blast! Paul and I  went home with lots of goodies- Thank goodness there were two of us, we were able to sub each other every now and then and do a little bit of Holiday shopping for family and friends (most especially for ourselves!) Didn’t get to really look at all the vendors, (the place was huge!) but we to got to meet a couple of real interesting ones! It was also great seeing other vendor pals we met at the Renegade Craft Fair as well. Expect more posts from us ranting about our awesome discoveries!

Unique Promo

Hola Boys and Girls!  We have two wristbands up for grabs for this weekend’s UNIQUE LA show!

All you have to do is to leave a comment, and let us know any one  of the following:

  • Who’s cooler: Sasquatch or Godzilla?
  • What’s the strangest thing you’ve eaten?
  • Would you rather be a vampire or a platypus?
  • Pick a pet: pot bellied pig, or a komodo dragon?

There are no limits for each person – comment away!  On Wednesday night 10pm PST, we will close the contest and pick two winners randomly, for a chance to win an entrance ticket to this weekend’s UNIQUE LA show (good for both days) AND a free button of their choice at our booth!  Now what a great deal is that!!

PLUS we will award special prizes to any of our favorite comments that manage to explode on the awesomeness scale of doom!   Comment away, and see you Angelenos this weekend!!

Sneak Peek!

What a weekend! This thanksgiving weekend was spent with a lot of drawing, coming up with fresh new designs that we’ll be launching at Unique LA. It’s been real fun! I’m definitely looking forward releasing these new buttons, this particular button set has been itching to get out already… 6 days to go, fellows! Do you think you can guess this set?

Ten shillings and six pence?

Ten shillings and six pence?

Now who in the right mind would wear the price of his hat at a tea party? He must be mad!

A Pocket Watch!

A lovely pocket watch!

For quite an important date, indeed! ;)

unique

A week away from Unique LA and we’re getting so excited! Did you know that just by attending you already get a free tote designed by Shepard Fairey’s Studio No.1? And it will be featuring artwork exclusively for the event. Now that is sweet.

Now besides our new display set up, we’ve been working on putting together our button sets. Here’s a preview of our package tags, made with love. :)

Mod gal!

That last Mod Gal is one of my favorites so far. Unique LA here we come! And like what Paul said, we got some special treats in store for you Unique LA goers, so watch out for the announcement! ;)

Preparations

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

We’ve spent the past couple of days brainstorming our button setup, and the countdown is fast approaching for our first UNIQUE LA attendance! We will be having a table right across the food stalls, and are terribly excited to meet all of you! We’re getting ready with a brand spankin’ new button display setup, which I’ve been sanding and painting the past few days. Hopefully I don’t mess up since I think it’ll be the coolest thing since sliced bread!

Stay tuned for more updates as December 5 and 6 draw near, we will be announcing a few event giveaways for those in attendance that weekend!

Hungover

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

The weekend at the Renegade Craft Fair was amazing! Thanks to those who dropped by and said hi, Paul and I are always happy to hear from you guys! We really did enjoy all the reactions that our buttons brought to the people at RCF. And so now we declare this following week as our own Renegade Crafter Week, where we’ll feature one (or two!) artist/crafter from the event that brought a smile on our face. So don’t forget to check back in a bit to see what we’ve got! :)

Oh and by the way, did you know that the Renegade Craft Fair will be in SF too? Hooray for handmade!

Renegade Day One

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Kat and I are totally pooped out! This morning was like the first day of school for the both of us, especially me, since I’ve never done this sort of craft fair shindig in my life. All I know, was that we were lookin’ sharp in our fanny packs!

We rushed home today and were pleasantly surprised by the success of our hard worked endeavour. Even though we’re halfway through the event, I’m still not quite sure what to expect tomorrow. One thing is for sure, it’ll be amazing times… and I’m spending a lot of money on other people’s goods :)

Stay tuned for (lots) of pics!

Skip the mall, go handmade! The Renegade Craft Fair is just around the corner, and Paul and I are really excited, not just because we get to take part of the action, but also because we get to check out the other artists/crafters and shop a bit as well. There seems to be a good bunch of them for this event!

Here are a couple of items that we liked from some of the participating artists’ pages, just click on them to get to their sites:

Maker Faire Hangover

maker-faire

We attended last Sunday’s festivities in San Mateo, and got totally flabbergasted by our first (and definitely not the last) Maker Faire festival. Special thanks to Audrey of the PR team for Maker Faire and Daily Candy for throwing that awesome contest!

It’s literally a Disneyland for adults (AND for kids), without the sappy characters and blatant capitalism (with apologies to Disneyland season pass holders, just exercising my first amendment rights). Most of the day we were gawking at all the stuff people created – from kinetic doo-dads, giant metal crab robots, and other randomness like watching ourselves in 3D being broadcast on a projector. I had to catch myself from squeezing Kat’s arm too hard and pulling it off in excitement.

Camera Obscura

By and far, my favorite parts were the Camera Obscura installation, and metal sculptures of polyhedra from Vladimir Bulatov. I’ve seen different iterations of a camera obscura before (of the pinhole variety), but this one totally blew my mind. I have never, in my life, seen an image reproduced in super high def, better than your 1080p HD that’s supposedly 21st century, and I will even say, better than what real life looks like. An image reproduced on a round piece of wood painted white, mind you. Very exciting.

I’ve always had a fascination with polyhedra (hello dodecahedrons), and squealed loudly like a schoolgirl when I saw the Bulatov sculptures.

Bulatov Sculptures

So much awesomeness in one festival, my brain almost exploded!! See you guys again next year :)

Renegade Craft Fair in LA

We are pleased to announce that we have been accepted to join the 2009 Renegade Craft Fair in LA this coming July!  The Renegade Craft Fair is one of the biggest, most known DIY Craft Fairs around, where hundreds of artists/crafters apply to, drawing in even thousands of craft lover shoppers out there. We are honored to be able to take part of this event, and are very excited to meet fellow crafters out there too!  We’ll keep you posted as the summer heat of July 11 and 12 comes near!

In the meantime, enjoy this new set of “Sew Fine” buttons!
